school readiness

At Rocket Kids we have a great school readiness programme that helps prepare children for school and future success. We pride ourselves in enabling children to become competent and confident learners.

Our school readiness programme provides learners with a variety of meaningful opportunities for them to develop and practice their skills and understandings as they prepare to move into the next phase of their schooling.

Some key indicators as children prepare themselves for school are:
  • separating easily from caregivers and  feeling safe while parents/caregivers are not in that setting
  • using appropriate language and behaviour to get his or her needs met
  • talking about themselves in their environment
  • using language to share experiences with others
  • speak confidently in front of others
  • play, socialise and talk with other children about their play
  • take turns when interacting with other children and adults
  • listen and follow instructions in a group
  • be able to remember at least 3 instructions and respond appropriately
  • concentrate on a task (for around 8-10min) without being too distracted or annoying others
  • move around easily without bumping into things
  • sit comfortably without wriggling too much (for around 8-10min)
  • hold a pencil comfortably and effectively
  • handle books appropriately
  • tell a story from the pictures - know that it has words that we read
  • manage our own dressing and toileting
  • manage contents of a lunchbox - unwrapping, spreading food out over the day, etc.

Our school readiness programme also focuses on different areas of children's learning as it relates to them as an individual, as part of a family, and as part of the greater community by incorporating focus learning times. These focus learning times draw on areas of children's interest and natural enquiry while discovering, practicing and building on key and fundamental skills related to mathematics, reading, writing, science, the arts, music and active movement.
